No Name Style had the
pleasure of introducing the Old Scholar Fashion Affair to Brisbane in a night
that showcased the talents of emerging designers in QLD. Having their designs
judged by a distinguished panel of fashion insiders and competing for the coveted
title of Emerging Designer of 2012 was an opportunity that doesn’t come along
too often.

The Old Scholar is an
Adelaide based online shopping destination that provided the winner of the
evening with a prize package, including a PR representation and media
bundle for their label worth $5000. The night began with guests walking the red
carpet lining the street outside of Oh Hello, who were then greeted by our
lovely volunteers at the door (thankyou Stephanie & Saadet). Paparazzo's
were out in force waiting to snap the guests at the media wall (which looked
amaze – thanks Oh Hello!). Chambord provided some delicious cocktails to
ease us into the night ahead…so with the drinks flowing, the crowd growing - it
was time begin. The lights dimmed, the photographers aimed their lenses and the
runway soundtrack (custom designed by the NNS team and mixed amazingly by the
Oh Hello team) the show commenced. The nervous wait, the anticipation, the months of stress-induced antics was all
worth it – the catwalk looked beautiful and ran ever so smoothly. NNS's first MAJOR event was a success.
A lil’ first hand experience
written by by Travis:
“Anyone familiar with the
backstage of any runway will understand the state of chaos leading into the
runways show. The models provided by June Dally’s were superb, fresh faced
destined for bright futures and sported wet look sleeked ponytail’s (thanks
Toni & Guy). A single central braid to enhanced the depth and accented by
the luminescent shimmering makeup that increased in volume in the interim of
each show, provided by Abbey Dagleish and the girls at Runway Express. The
music cued, the models lined up and the show started and has had nothing but
good things said about it since.”

The runway pieces looked oh
so good - from the leather corsets and feminine hues of Amira, to the almost
70’s inspired prints and flowing fabrics of Baumbach & Always On Ev3n, to
the strong and binding leather infused fabrics of Mylisse Crystal and the
strong lines and pocket features of Be Bitkow; and of course from Chi the Label
were pieces any corporate woman needs to own, and the QUT graduate whose pieces
closed our show with her hand beading and super chic statement pieces, self
titled Jacqueline Curran.
We loved meeting all of the
designers, from the initial emails from interested designers keen to show their
creations, to the dress rehearsals and styling sessions, and would like to
thank them all for their professionalism and participation. We must use the old
cliché here, they are all winners in our book for their original,
eclectic styles and most of all, their unwavering enthusiasm.
But… there can only be one
CROWNED winner on the night, and after our lovely judges - chic stylist Lucia
Martinez, admired designer Gail Sorronda & design legend Daniel Lightfoot
- observed the show from front row seats, they retreated to the VIP room and
deliberated over a bottle of Moet. Upon return to the runway, they announced
their UNANIMOUS decision - SAFA ITOTE and her label AMIRA, as our emerging
designer of 2012. Congratulations Safa – you’re bound for big things, don’t
forget us when your designs are gracing international catwalks.
AMIRA
